22 Sep 2006 To our brave Marine who was taken from us at such a young age. You fought and died for the freedom of many. Your unselfish act has not been forgotten by your family. We are sad that you are gone, but are so proud of the time that we knew you. The Ultimate Sacrifice Today we hear or read of another casualty. A man or woman has lost his or her life in combat. The flame has been put out on a bright future. Who knows the cost to mankind? A future president, a future doctor or nurse, A humanitarian who would have improved society's lot. The void almost unnoticed can never be filled. Life goes on as many do not even give it a second thought. But loved ones cannot move on without pain and heartache. A question as to why this life is no more? A question to understand the meaning of this sacrifice? A story left untold and known only to their heart. Tears, heartaches, questions and the worth of it all, Not understood by many - felt by all who love their fellow man. A Note from The Virtual Wall When Battalion Landing Team 3/1, built around the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, landed at Than Tham Khe during Operation Badgertooth they ran into a buzz-saw. At day's end on 27 Dec 1967, BLT 3/1 had lost 49 men, most of them from Lima Company: H&S Company: 3 men K Company: 6 men L Company: 26 men Capt Thomas S. Hubbell, Milford, MI 2ndLt George M. Kamp, Lima 3/1, rendered a quadraplegic by small arms fire. He died of his injuries 19 March 1997 and was added to the Wall on Memorial Day 2000.
