E-mail me at marionjd33@webtv.net Gerald Dwain Angelley, Chief Hospital Corpsman, United States Navy, was buried on 15 May 1969 in Plot P1583, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, San Diego County, California, surrounded by other men of honor and integrity. The Batchelor Enlisted Quarters, Naval Station San Diego, is named Angelley Hall. The Mission Six men of HMM-263 died when their CH-46 (BuNo 154835) crashed after taking extensive hostile file: MAJ Bernard Reinhold Terhorst, pilot CAPT Robert Dotson Huie, Jr, copilot HMC Gerald Dwain Angelley, USN Corpsman CPL Gaylen Ray Gallion LCPL Arthur Franklin Henderson LCPL Theodore S Rolstad The crew was attempting a penetration MEDEVAC when the aircraft came under heavy fire, taking multiple hits which damaged both hydraulic systems. One system bled out immediately, while the other gradually bled down over a brief period. The crew attempted to get to suitable runway, with the aircraft becoming less and less controllable as the #2 hydraulics bled away. Major Terhorst was going to try to roll it on at the Thuong Duc Special Forces camp dirt runway, but a CARIBOU aircraft was sitting in the middle of the runway. Attempts to raise the camp or the CARIBOU by radio were unsuccessful before the crew lost control of the CH-46D. The aircraft rolled inverted, crashed, and burned. There were no survivors.
