A Note from The Virtual WallOn 02 Jun 1969 a CH-46D from HMM-161 (BuNo 153970) was shot down east of Khe Sanh; the aircraft crashed and burned. One crewman, Navy Corpsman HM2 Michael Cavanagh, was killed in the crash; a second, Cpl Donald Akins, died of injuries a week later on 09 Jun 1969.Additional information is available on the Pop-A-Smoke site. |
