I didn't know Jerry well because he was new to the Troop, but the CO thought very highly of him. I was flying the helicopter that recovered his body. That memory is still with me.

I am helping paint the markings on an AH-1 that Jerry no doubt flew (as did I). It will be put on permanent display at the Veterans' Museum in Tampa. Jerry's name will be under the front seat on the right side in memory of his sacrifice. Sam Roberson, the Pilot in Command who died with Jerry, will have his name under the back seat on the right side.

A Troop, 1/9th Cavalry, lost two men when AH-1G 67-15559 went down north of Nui Ba Den in in Tay Ninh Province on 27 March 1969 - WO Jerry Baxter and WO Samuel A. Roberson of Wilson, NC.
