It has been almost thiry-eight years since you were taken from us. I often wonder why I was spared three weeks earlier when I was wounded. Thanks for worrying about me and writing me a letter the day before you were taken, it meant a lot to me. We did have a good going away party for you at the clubhouse - I didn't even get that myself. I had one guy assigned to my unit in Texas that claimed he was in your unit the day you were killed. He refused to talk about what happened and would only say that it was a bad day. Don't know if he was blowing smoke to me or telling the truth.

You are still getting yelled at by Tom Griffith - he named his dog "Beasley" in your memory. Saw and talked to Gary and Gayle today, I know they visit your grave site also.

I have two great sons from my second marriage that you would be proud of - I wish you would have been able to enjoy a marriage and had a couple of boys yourself - we would be hoping they wouldn't do half the things we did in school. Whenever I hear the song "Birds & the Bees", I think of you and I with Paula and Jane parking in your mother's car that had the fold down seats. We had some great times, buddy.

I have only been to the Wall two times and seen the traveling walls about four times. I seem to talk to you better at your grave site though. I sure do miss you and could use one good friend like you.

Well, Roy, time for me to go but I wanted you to know that I think of you often and miss you greatly. I have lost track of your brother Jim, but when I saw him twenty years or so ago - he was the image of you.

I would like to hear from anybody that served with Roy to find out what went down that day.
