14 Jan 2006 "Sloop" John B. and I went through Avionics School at Naval Air Station Millington, Tennessee, in 1966-'67. We then were stationed at MCAS New River until getting orders to Vietnam in the Fall of '67. J.B. was to serve with HML-167 and I was with H&MS-16 at the Marble Mountain Air Facility. We were devastated when we learned he was shot down. John was a great guy and friend. I'm 60 now, J.B. ... Still crazy after all these years! Stay young forever for all of us, J.B.!! Semper Fi! Paul O. Hunt Sergeant, USMC, 2215630 huntfarm@tctc.com A Note from The Virtual Wall On 27 August 1968 an HML-167 gunship (UH-1E 151880) on a "Firefly" mission was hit by enemy fire. The crew reported they were streaming fuel, then the aircraft exploded and crashed. Three crewmen were killed in the crash and one severely injured. They were Capt John H. Key, pilot (rescued); Capt Arthur L. Stockburger, Livingston, MT, copilot; Cpl John B. Becker, Cold Spring-Highland Hts, KY, gunner; and Pfc James D. Wagstaff, Harpursville, NY, crew chief.
