Ward Benson

"To live in the hearts we leave behind,
is never to have died."
(Thomas Campbell, circa 1888)

Ward Benson succeeded me as 3rd Platoon commander and had the respect of all of the Marines who served under him. Through the reunions of the Fox 2/5 Association, I have met many Marines who served with Ward; to a man, all recall him as an exemplary leader and a good friend.

I was at his side when he was wounded and have visited his gravesite in Sidney, Iowa, several times.
