Lee David Benson is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 45E Line 010.

16 June 2005

I never knew you but I prayed for you every night. I received a POW bracelet for Christmas and it had your name on it. I didn't know anything about you except that you were fighting in Vietnam to help keep me safe. I was about 10 years old at the time.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On the night of 17 March 1968 an S-2E (BuNo 149274) from Antisubmarine Squadron 23 launched from USS YORKTOWN for a surveillance patrol off the North Vietnamese coast near Vinh. The last contact with the aircraft was an advisory from the crew that they were having difficulties with their radar system. Search and rescue efforts were begun when the S-2 failed to return to the ship, but nothing was found until the 20th, when a wing section was found. The four-man crew was listed as Killed/Body not Recovered:
