Sgt. Allen Brackins was what a Combat leader should be. He commanded your utmost respect. I respected him. He was not even my Platoon Sergeant, but I respected him.

I never thought he would die. To this day, when I think about it, which is often, I still am troubled by his death.

He was one of those men who you'd like to have a reunion with 25 years later, but who you'd still address as "Sergeant Brackins".

Men like him should not have died.
