A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 18 June 1969 the pilot of a UH-1H Huey from the 282nd AHC was hit in the head by ground fire while departing a landing zone about 12 kilometers west of Quang Ngai City. The aircraft rolled inverted and crashed, resulting in the loss of four men:
  • WO Gary C. Salanitro, Huntington Station, NY, pilot
  • CPT George D. Carr, Corpus Christi, TX, copilot
  • SP5 Jose M. De La Torre, Fullerton, CA, crew chief
  • SP4 George R. Browning, East Bernstadt, KY, gunner
