Albert was my boyhood best friend and was killed one week before I graduated from college. I recieved a card from him after I knew he was gone.

Even after a 27 year military career, he has never left me.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, lost five men on 08 June 1970:
  • H&S Company:
    • HM2 Albert C. Bachman, Turtlepoint, PA
    • Sgt Albert A. St Lawrence, Mansfield, MA
    • Cpl George L. Tucker, Wheeling, WV
    • LCpl Willie L. Steele, Louisville, MS

  • K Company:
    • Pfc Bruce W. Blakely, Knoxville, TN
The four men from H&S were killed when their jeep struck a 60-pound box mine; three others were wounded.

Pfc Blakely's death resulted from an accident of war. As his 1st Platoon squad moved toward its night ambush site it was detected by a 3rd Platoon squad which had already established an ambush - and which opened fire on Blakely's squad. Blakely was killed and one other 1st Platoon Marine was wounded in the incident.
