A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 14 Sep 1969 the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry lost nine men in Binh Duong Province - one to enemy fire and eight to the accidental detonation of a US Claymore mine. The eight who died in the accident were

  • SP4 Leonard L. Potts, St Louis, MO, B Company
  • SP4 Jeffrey J. Johns, Anoka, MN, E Company
  • SP4 Tony E. Scoggins, Graham, NC, E Company
  • PFC Charles W. Becker, Minooka, IL, A Company
  • PFC Paul W. Murphy, Atlanta, GA, D Company
  • PFC Walter E. Heyer, Warren, MI, E Company
The ninth man killed that day was SP4 Gary K. Stanfield of Chanute, Kansas; he was killed by an enemy grenade.
