Claude was born in St Bernard-de-Beauce, the son of Joseph William Zoel Betty and Marie Jeanne D'Arc(Lemay) Betty, of Webster Massachusetts.

Claude enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 31 1965 in Boston and arrived in Vietnam on July 26, 1967.

During the month of October, the Battalion continued supporting the 1st Marine Division in the vicinity of the Da Nang Military Complex in Quang Nam Province.

On October 18, while attached to Company G, of the 7th Marines Cpl Betty was attempting to destroy an ARVN anti-personnel mine which was found in the perimeter wire of the Company Command Post when it exploded. Cpl Betty died from his wounds by the fragmentation device.

Corporal Claude Charles Betty was survived by his mother Marie (1923-2016), father Zoel (1918-1993) and siblings Victor C Betty (1944-1982), Gerard L Betty (1946-1979), Micheline, Dianne, Suzanne, Richard, Lisa, and Michael Betty.

They are buried in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Webster, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
