01 Oct 2007My father, Curtis Earl Burkett, was killed serving his country on February 19, 1971. I was only 4 1/2 years old when he died so I don't really remember him. Dad himself was 4 months shy of turing 24 when he was killed. It was an out-right tragedy that such young men and women had to die. I love my father dearly and I will never forget him. A Note from The Virtual WallSP4 Burkett arrived in Vietnam on 15 June 1970 and was assigned to E Company, 2nd Bn, 35th Infantry on 23 June. He served with Echo 2/35 until mid-November, when he transferred to the Aerorifle Platoon, B Company, 123rd Avn Bn. Based on data from the Army Adjutant General's database SP4 Burkett drowned during a river crossing in the remote Dak Selo River valley just north of the Kontum/Quang Ngai province border. In addition to the normal service medals, SP4 Burkett received two awards of the Bronze Star, one Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation Medal. |
