Hi to all interested,

I am a niece to this medic soldier called Monte, most likely in service called Busby, I assume this since this is what my father tended to go by in friendly yet serious (competive or work related) circles.

I was born in Sept. of 1963, so my knowledge and memory of Monte is very brief. But, I feel the need to share what little I know. I can not explain this need, it comes on me at times when I least expect it. Tonight it was a request at Kinko's for pictures of soldiers named on the "Wall". There is always a feeling in me that had Monte lived, life would have been so different.

I only know know that Monte was killed in the war when I was 5. I only know that his name was barely mentioned by family in all the years after. I only know he joined the forces very young in life and reenlisted because he was needed and wanted to be there. I only know my mother (his sister-in-law) loved him and feels she has been reassured of his place in Heaven. I only know he left a daughter he barely knew and I never knew behind. I only know that I have 6 very strong memories of him and wish I had more.

He took my brother to Birmingham from Huntsville just for lunch, he bandaged my mother's hand when she cut it on a glass, he got me up from what was suppossed to be a nap to go to the arsenal for smokes, he left on a plane for Vietnam with us all waving goodbye at the airport window. My parents went to the funeral while we were left with an aunt, there was always a folded flag on my Grandmother's shelf. 4 years later I was staying with my Grandmother and was cold, she gave me a sweatshirt and actually said it was Monte's, I can still remember how warm it felt.

Wish he was here.
