My name is Michael R. Felton, and my father John R. Felton was a dear and close classmate of Michael Confer when they were both at McCook Senior High School, Class of 60. I was born in 1966, 6 months after his plane went down in July, and I was named after him. I cannot tell what an honor it is to have your father name you after his best friend. I wish I was able to meet Mike Confer, and I would like find out more about him.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

LTJG Michael Confer was flying A-4E BuNo 151150 as wingman in a section tasked to make a night visual attack on a staging area at Kien An, on the coast about 35 miles southeast of Haiphong. After the target was lit off with parachute flares, LTJG Confer rolled in for a 45-degree dive rocket delivery. The flight lead saw the rockets impact - and he also saw another larger flash. When he could not contact his wingman, lead realized the larger explosion was Confer's aircraft impacting the ground. There was no evidence that Confer ejected from his aircraft before impact. His remains have not been repatriated.
