As a senior Non-Commissioned Officer of Infantry in a combat unit, Sergeant First Class Gregorio M. Camacho was charged with the responsibility of ensuring the combat efficiency of his unit. More important, he was responsible for ensuring that the lives of his soldiers were not needlessly risked.

Sergeant First Class Camacho gave his own life carrying out his duties. He died of gunshot wounds received in battle in Pleiku Province, South Vietnam, on 26 September 1968.

Sergeant First Class Camacho is remembered and honored by his community and by his comrades in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Leon Williams Post 4346, Toccoa, Stephens County, Georgia.



Stephens County, Georgia, lost eight of its sons in Vietnam.
