SFC Coffey served his country with great distinction for many years in the Special Forces Community. He was someone who every young soldier should strive to be like. He has been and will always be sorely missed. Thank you, SFC Coffey, for all that you have given to your country.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Master Sergeant Coffey was assigned to the B-52 Detachment (also known as Project Delta) based at Nha Trang. B-52 was responsible for training ARVN Special Forces and the 91st ARVN Ranger Battalion, as well as other U.S. and allied forces, for long-range patrols, road watches, hunter-killer missions, and other forms of unconventional warfare. In addition, B-52 units were capable of deployment to "hot spots" throughout Vietnam and did so when and as directed by the South Vietnamese General Staff and/or USMACV.

On 11 August 1967, MSG Coffey was an advisor with a B-52 unit operating at Lang Vei (A-101), about 5 miles southwest of Khe Sanh in Quang Tri Province, and was killed in action in an engagement with NVA forces.
