A Note from The Virtual Wall The C-7 "Caribou" light transport was an Army aircraft, but early in the war a decision was taken to transfer them to the Air Force. The Army's six Caribou companies were matched up with an equal number of temporary Air Force squadrons, and the two groups worked together until the Air Force flight and maintenance crews were ready to stand on their own. The Army's 17th Aviation Company was paired with the Air Force's 6252nd Operations Squadron. On 04 October 1966 C-7B CARIBOU tail number 63-9751 crashed into Hon Cong Mountain near An Khe Air Base, Binh Dinh Province. Thirteen men died in the crash: Flight crew: Capt Francis H.
