Bob Dangberg was one of most courageous man I ever known. Bob was my relative, my teammate in sports, and followed in my footsteps serving with the 101st Airborne. I still think about the last time I saw you alive. My Dad and I were stacking hay in Nebraska and Bob came out to say goodbye before he deployed to Viet Nam. My father Henry, who served with the famed 5th Armored Division in World War II, told Bob to stay sober and always alert. I told him to be careful and I would see him again in Nebraska. Bob in his usual cool manner simply said he was looking forward to the challenge that lay before him and would buy us a drink when he returned. Bob, I still miss you and look forward to collecting that drink in the next life.

A Note from The Virtual WallAlpha Company, 2nd Bn, 501st Infantry lost two men on 18 April 1970 - SP4 Robert L. Dangberg and SGT Michael J. Vagnone of Stamford, Connecticutt. Both men received posthumous promotions. |
