24 Dec 2006 CSM Dondero, it was 37 years ago last month that my life changed in a way I will never forget. Your room next to mine in the compound was suddenly empty. We had become the closest of friends, both old men in comparison to most of the others. I think of you often and remember you as the finest soldier I ever had the privilege of serving with in my 30 years in the Army. Gone but not forgotten. From a friend, Samuel H. 30 May 2007 Uncle Spike, I only remember one day of my life meeting you and it was on a Valentine's Day in the 60's. I came home from school and you were there ... I gave you all of the Valentines I received at school. Even though my Dad, your brother, was in Vietnam at the time, you stopped in to check on us and for some reason, I think you knew you would never return. I'm sad because I never got to know you like I wanted to but the memory I do have will be with me for all of my days. Till we meet again, your niece Janet Dondero Campbell jancamp@molalla.net

A Note from The Virtual Wall Command Sergeant Major Dondero was a veteran of World War Two, Korea, and Vietnam, and the recipient of two Legion of Merit awards as well as two Bronze Stars.
