25 May 2007 My grandfather was Dr. Thomas Joseph Dean, of Alabama. I am Thomas Joseph Dean, a retired teacher and coach, from Kentucky. My son, Joseph Dean, was a Marine. So, when I saw this website, by accident, I wanted to say a word or two to the family and friends of your "Thomas Joseph Dean." Thanks for serving our great country, USA, and for serving it well. 15 Nov 2007 The photo and following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. "Tommy" Dean was a gifted athlete, capping outstanding scholastic careers in soccer, basketball and baseball by being on John Bartram High School's 1963 city championship baseball team. He told his parents he had enlisted in the Marine Corps and volunteered for Vietnam because he felt it was necessary to do so before he went to college. The 20-year-old lance corporal, a rifleman assigned to Company A of the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, had been on several search-and-destroy missions before being severely wounded. He died at a Navy hospital in the Philippines on Memorial Day 1967. Dean was survived by his parents and a sister. SEMPER FIDELIS, MARINE!
