28 Oct 2002 Photo courtesy of Pat Guthrie kguthriek@aol.com From the 1/5 Inf unit history: "On May 12, 1969, at 0315 hours, the 1/5th(M) CRIP element was positioned at the Cu Chi Sub-Sector when an 82mm mortar barrage hit the position. Six Bobcats were wounded and one was killed in the attack." Stephen De Aro received the Bronze Star for his attempt to rescue other soldiers wounded in the attack. 20 Sep 2005 I am Andrew Clark De Aro, younger brother of Stephen De Aro. We were 2 years apart in age. I cannot express my gratitude to you who has immortalized my older brother. At the time of his demise, I was in AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. My unit was assigned to deploy to Nam, but upon his death I was re-assigned to Germany. I cannot express the anguish I experienced at that time. It took me ten years to deal with my anger. Today, the anger is gone, replaced by a sadness whenever I hear of a death in Iraq.
