Glenn Ethington was a young man and so full of life and proud to be serving his country in Vietnam. I had the honor and privilege of knowing Glenn through his cousin, Eddie Noe. Eddie and I became brothers in life, "brothers by choice, not by chance" and along with having Eddie, Charlie and Mom Noe as my immediate family, I also had the good fortune to get Glenn as my cousin, too!

The last time I saw Glenn, I was at Fort Knox for basic training, January 1968, and Glenn was doing his AIT there, stopped down to see me at my barracks. He was laughing because as all of you know who have been in the military and especially in basic, you don't take chances and salute everything and everybody! Glenn happened to have on his dress green uniform and being a private E2 had no sleeve insignia and the guys were saluting him.

Glenn's sister, Barbara, is looking for anyone who served with and/or knows the circumstances of her brother's death. The Army told the family Glenn had drowned trying to save a Vietnamese from drowning. The Army wouldn't give the family any of the names of the other men present and Glenn's casket was closed. It has been 35 years since Glenn left us and his sister is desperately seeking information from those who served with her brother, especially those who were with him on his last day.

Glenn Ray Ethington was my uncle, a uncle I never knew and I was given his namesake. Although I never had the chance to know him, I am proud of his service to this great country, his ultimate sacrifice, and the honor he showed that unfortunate day. I only hope that I can carry his name with as much courage and honor as he did.

May God Bless You, Uncle Glenn.
