A Note from The Virtual Wall

On the books, Lance Corporal Flynn was assigned to Subunit 1, Service Company, HQ Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

On the ground, he was assigned to Combined Action Platoon Delta-5, 2nd Combined Action Group. The Combined Action Program put a squad of Marines and a Navy Corpsman into a village to work with and shore up the Popular Force militiamen. The CAP Marines lived, fought, and sometimes died with the villagers.

On 13 September 1967, Lance Corporal Gary Flynn was killed by grenade fragments.
