SGT James Isiah Fowler grew up in White City Kansas. He began his tour of Vietnam May 8, 1968 and in less than 90 days, died from Encephalitis after being admitted to the hospital in serious condition (date unknown) and died later from his illness.

On one internet site, a August 2007 tribute pointed out the family history: It read, in part: "I am a High School Principal, from Oklahoma who also served, in Vietnam. James' father, a soon to be 93 year old great grandfather, was trying to help one of his great grandchildren get enrolled in school. His father entered the US Army in 1935 and retired with a break, in service in 1962. He is a spry gentlemen, with a great mind, and drives himself. I have known him for years and just found out this morning about his son dying in RVN. I thanked him, for his and his son's sacrifice for this great nation. "

Born to Alice Jean Schnegelsiepen Fowler (1922-2000) and James Isiah Fowler (1914-2013), James Jr was survived by his parents and siblings: Dwight Fowler; Harlin Fowler (Living, age 70, as of April of 2014); Illa Alice Fowler; Inez Rose Fowler; and Sharon Fowler Clark (1942-2001).

He is buried along with his mother in White City Cemetery, White City, Morris County, Kansas and his father is buried in Marlow Cemetery, Marlow, Stephens County, Oklahoma
