I never got over it ... I moved on ... but was never the same in thinking or how I felt about our country.

I was 19 and he was 21. Just before he boarded the plane to leave, I told him of my terrible recurring nightmares, of his not returning. He smiled in the most loving way and proceeded to whisper in my ear, "Don't worry. I'll live forever". I can still hear his whisper to me to this very day ... in my mind my husband will live forever. How?

We had a son. A legacy unfolded ... he joined the U.S. Army at 18, became an Honor Guard to pay homage to his father and other fallen comrades, went on to wear the red beret of the elite 82nd airborne and is currently serving with a specialized medical unit of the GREEN BERETS.

I have a grandson and amazingly he and my son mirror Bill Sr. in every way. So, I have to believe that out of tragedy, something good comes from it and freedom will ALWAYS prevail.

A memorial from his wife.
