Russ, it has been a while since we put you in your final resting spot. Every time I visit your grave I see our young friends fighting back the tears as we held the flag over your casket, I hear the Taps and the rifle fire of that final salute. God Bless You on this Memorial Day 2007.

From a friend,

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 1st Bn, 50th Infantry had been attached to the 1st Cavalry Division, but when the 1st Cav went north to Quang Tri Province in January 1968 the 1/50 Infantry stayed in the central highlands, attached to the 4th Infantry Division. On 02 March 1968 the battalion lost four men:
  • C Company:
    • SGT Clarence S. Hills, Gilbert, AZ
    • SP4 Russell C. Haas, La Crosse, WI
    • SP4 Todd A. Handy, Xenia, OH

  • HQ Company:
    • PFC Erwin B. Sims, Uniontown, OH (medic, probably with C/1/50)
