It is funny how even though you never met someone they can have an affect upon you. Private Hampton died before I was born. I can remember his picture being displayed proudly in our home with a half dollar that he gave my grandmother before he shipped out. He told her that he would not be coming home, how true were those words. I don't know what happened that long ago day, I do know that it took his life. I used to look at that picture and wonder who that man was. He made such an impression on the family that hung with other members of the family. Since I moved away from the home many years ago, I have not seen the picture. I will never forget the time I visited the Wall and the feelings I had. Mr. Hampton, you live in my heart. I have heard you were a good man and a good friend to some of my kin. For all that and your sacrifice, I am grateful.

From the son of a friend,
Jesse Hall
