Uncle Darriel,
I missed my usual timeframe of May/June to honor you in words,
but I honor you every day with my actions.
I hope my family makes you proud!

Little brother, I love and miss you still. I often think of what our life and yours would have been like if you were still alive.Your nieces and nephews have all heard stories about what a loving and funny guy you were. Your big sis, Doris

I can never repay you for the sacrifice you made for not only me, but all Americans. When I sing the National Anthem at professional events I never take money in honor of you. I can truly sing that song from the heart with you in mind, it's personal for me and I know you hear me and have been at my side for over 200 performances. I named my son after you and have kept my vow to serve 20 years of military service in your honor. 20 years of my life is still no comparison to the loss of your life at such a young age. I miss you and love you dearly. You will never be forgotten!

I am the youngest of five with a brother named after you. Being the youngest I cannot imagine a world without my brothers and sisters. Therefore I cannot imagine how your brothers and sisters have lived without you. The smiles you bring to their faces when they talk about you only bring me to the realization that although you are not physically here, you still are. In all of our Hearts.

It would have been great to meet you in person, but I know that God had better plans for you. Even though I was named after a great man I will never come close to what you have done to impact the lives of our family and for America. I know that you were a good man and are still loved greatly by all who hold you dear. I am proud to have your name and I dream one day of shaking your hand. You will not be forgotten.
