Carlos died as a result of gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and back received in hostile ground action in the Ia Drang Valley. He was survived by his father, Henry Monroe Hatcher (1928-1985), North Davis Street, Albany, Georgia. His mother was not mentioned in the Army document providing information to contact the family. He was also survived by one sibling, Jennifer Lynn Hatcher (1956 - 2013). He is buried in Pinecrest Memory Garden Cemetery Moultrie Colquitt County Georgia,
