We went to high school together. Since we shared a last name, we often got seated near each other. I especially remember gym class - I loved it, John hated it!

Thanks, John, for your sacrifice. We all owe you a lot.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

In the first week of 1968 the 196th Infantry Brigade sent elements of three infantry battalions into the Hiep Duc Valley in Quang Tin Province - 2/1st Infantry, 3/21st Infantry, 4/31st Infantry. By 04 Jan the units were having increased contact with VC and NVA forces, culminating in a major battle on 09/10 Jan 1968. Seventy-nine US troops were killed between 03 and 14 January, together with several hundred known NVA and VC dead.

On 05 Jan C Company, 2/1st Infantry, lost 9 men in an engagement. Alpha 3/21, operating in a different part of the valley, lost one man - SP4 John Jonson.
