Allan was a wonderful friend. We entered the Marines together and went through OCS in the same platoon. I was deeply saddened to hear that he had been killed while we were relatively close in Vietnam. His parents wrote to me to ask about how he died. I called his unit and they told me how he was hit by mortar fire while calling in artillery. He was a hero and a wonderful friend.
