We went to advanced infantry training together in Ft. Polk, La. I didn't see him again until I got wounded and he was in the same hospital. We spent one night talking about old friends, family, home and the war. It wasn't till I got home that I learned that he had been killed during the conflict. He was my best friend and one of those people who could laugh at just about anything. I miss him and know that he gave the ultimate for his country.

Today is May the 13th, 2004, 35 years since Jim was killed but I still remember the moment I received the news and the time we said goodbye at the airport and you turned and walked into the dark runway. At the cemetery last Sunday, Mothers' Day, Jody recalled his memory of the 21 gun salute and I have never forgotten it or Taps. Memories of our childhood together do not come as easy these days, but I still see your smiling face. God willing, I will be with you soon and we can reminisce, Tommy.
