A Note from The Virtual Wall

The pilot, crew chief, and five passengers were killed when a U-1A OTTER (tail number 57-6119) of the 54th Aviation Company crashed during take-off from Long Binh on 22 Nov 1967:
  • 54th Avn Co aircrew:
    • CWO David A. Kreitzer, Laconia, NH
    • SP4 Thomas B. Allen, Greenville, MS

  • HHC, 222nd Avn Bn:
    • PFC David L. Tasker, Encino, CA (arrived SVN 11/21/67)

  • In transit from the 90th Replacement Battalion:
    • PVT Sheldon D. Bowler, Murray, UT (arrived SVN 11/15/67)
    • PFC Marshall F. Freng, Elkton, MD (arrived SVN 11/21/67)
    • PFC Steven P. Morse, Bridgeton, MO (arrived SVN 11/15/67)
    • PVT Allyson Y. Sasaki, Honolulu, HI (arrived SVN 11/22/67)
Two men survived the crash itself, but died of injuries received - PFC Tasker on 26 November and Warrant Officer Kreitzer on 02 Dec 1967.

It was especially sad that none of the newly-arrived soldiers had been in Vietnam more than a week, and one - PVT Sasaki - died the very day he arrived in South Vietnam.
