Jack was killed in action in an ambush near Tay Ninh. He was hit while saving another man. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and a Gallantry Cross with Palm and RVN National Order medals from South Vietnam.

The photo below was taken at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where Jack did his basic training, about 6 months before he was killed.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 19 Jan 1968 elements of B Company, 1/5th Infantry, were escorting a convoy through the Ben Cui Rubber Plantation when an APC was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. Two men died in the explosion; the third was shot to death while trying to pull the wounded driver from the APC. The three men killed in the incident were
