Alan grew up in Carteret, New Jersey, but spent most of his summers visiting his grandparents, Bertha and Fred Langer, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. His summers were spent at the Mount Vernon Baseball Park and at the Allicon Swimming Pool in South Lawrence where we all learned to swim. After high school Alan spent his summers at Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts, where he met his wife to be, Linda Estey. Alan loved to play his guitar and sing his favorite song, "Corrina, Corrina". He did not sing well but he sure was fun and loved life. He died at 22 and is survived by his wife Linda, his son Alan who he never got to meet, and many, many friends who think of him often.

Alan,

Your close friend who created this page for The Virtual Wall, Bernie Schaufenbil, died Sunday, November 20, 2005 from brain cancer. His death came just a month after your 59th birthday. Thinking of both of you always.

Today is your 58th Birthday. Hope you are celebrating it with your mother and mother in law. It's been 35 years and I have since remarried, but I think of you daily and still wonder what life would be like had you survived. Would we have the 8 children we wanted?

Continue watching over me and your son, Alan Jr. Life has never been the same. I still have a hole in my heart and it will not be healed until we are together again.

From his wife,
Linda H Langer-Fortin

Its been 37 years since you left me, but it feels like yesterday when you boarded that plane for Vietnam, waved goodbye on the stairs, and never looked back. You knew then you would not return. As I get older my thoughts keep going back to you. There is a song by Kenny Chesney "Who you'd be Today" that brings back so many memories. I miss you. Till we meet again.

Linda

Dear Alan,
I too have missed you these many years. Each year when I fill out my annual calendar I always mark your birthday between my husband Jim's (the 20th) and my dad's (the 22nd). Three special people all in a row. The Guilmette family will always keep you in their hearts, prayers and memories. I love and miss you!

I recently visited the Vietnam Veteran's Moving Wall Memorial.

Sergeant Alan Karl Langer, Section 34 West, Line #85.

When I ran my fingers across Alan's name, lots of memories,
the 38 years seems like yesterday.

What a wonderful guy! Alan, I miss you.

You were a fun-loving guy and fun to be around. The last time I saw you, I dropped you off at your grandparents' home on Mount Vernon Street. You turned, waved with your trade mark smile. Thanks, Alan.
