09 June 2002 I knew Jack, his father Fred, and brothers Dave and Mike. His death in 1965 was obviously a shock to family and friends alike. Despite his death, or maybe because of it, his father later went to Vietnam as a civilian employee of SeaLand. I lost touch with his family many years ago, but still remember all the fun we had growing up in Akron. Rest in peace. From a friend ... E-mail address is not available.

1 May 2005 Jack was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. Six months before enlisting in the Army he left home to live with our mother. That is why he is listed as from Hilliard, Ohio. He went to Rankin Elementary, Perkins Junior High, and Buchtel High Schools. He loved building models from kits. The car models were his favorite. He could take the extra parts that came with the kits and create his own design of cars and dragsters. I can close my eyes and still see him sitting at his desk building those models. His second love was drawing. He was way before his time when it came to drawing, and putting sayings on T-Shirts. His favorite clothes were a white T-Shirt, white belt, and white deck shoes. He had a good heart and soul. He was buried in the Hilliard Cemetery. In November it will be 40 years, but I still think of him often. He was my rock, he was always there when I needed him. I just found out about this The Virtual Wall. I would have added a message long ago if I knew of this site sooner. Thanks to all that have left so kind messages. 31 Mar 2007 I want to thank Jack for his bravery protecting our country. He is my cousin. I was only 4 years old when he died but my father talked about him all the time. I found this site when my father and his uncle Jack Lynn passed in 2004. Hopefully Mike and David are doing well. God Bless. Joe Lynn lynnjoe95@sbcglobal.net Ex-Akronite Died A Hero In Vietnam The Bronze Star and Purple Heart have been awarded posthumously to a young soldier, who grew up in Akron and gave his life in Vietnam. PFC Jack D. Lynn, 19, was fatally wounded last Nov. 17, while serving as a radio-telephone operator with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). The citation, presented to his father, Frederick P. Lynn of Middletown, N.J., said PFC Lynn was instrumental in repelling attacks by a battalion of Viet Cong in the la Drang Valley. "He repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire until he was mortally wounded. His courageous action reflects great credit upon himself and the Army and is in keeping with the highest tradition of the 1st Cavalry." Both father and son were born and lived most of their lives in Akron. The son attended Rankin and West Junior High schools. Frederick Lynn was transferred by his company to Puerto Rico and Jack went there to live with him during his senior high school years. He came back to Ohio and lived with his mother, Mrs. Carl McCann in Hilliard, near Columbus, until he joined the Army. An uncle, Jack Lynn, lives at 430 E. 06 Mar 2008 I knew Jack in Hilliard, he lived by the railroad tracks across from Russell Grainery. Me and some other friends used to play football in his yard. I remember the day they called a special assembly at school to let everyone know that Jack had been killed in Vietnam. It was a real shock. I spent 1969-1970 in Bien Hoa, Air Force Security Police, and often thought of Jack, and other friends from Hilliard who gave their lives. Jack's gravesite is in Wesley Chapel Cemetery just outside Hilliard, and I visit it when I'm in Ohio. For any family member who may read this, a large evergreen bush/tree has overgrown his grave marker, and can be removed if requested by a family member.
