WILLIAM R. LIDDYCOAT - First Lt. William R. Liddycoat, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald P. Liddycoat of 4403 SE 43rd Ave, died Friday in San Francisco of wounds he suffered 8 Nov (1968) in Vietnam. A graduate of Cleveland High School in 1968, Lt. Liddycoat attended Portland State College, then entered officers candidate school in 1966. He was engaged in his fifth search and destroy mission when wounded severely by a mine. His parents were flown to Japan and were with him for three weeks before he was transferred to Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, where he died of complications. Service for Lt. Liddycoat was Tuesday in Willamette National Cemetery with military honors including an honor guard from Ft. Lewis WA. He was the 406th Oregonian to die in the war.
