Tony was killed as he and his squad approached a structure they found while on patrol. Tony was killed by small arms fire from an enemy soldier somewhere behind the structure. The round that killed him passed through the stock of his M16. Tony was a kind and very friendly individual from California. He had been a barber before he was drafted and he used to give the rest of us in the company haircuts when we were in the rear. Tony was a good soldier and a good man. I thank God for the opportunity I had to know you Tony, and I will not forget you.

A Note from The Virtual WallThe 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, was the one of the longest-serving ground units in Vietnam, operating in-country from 1966 until withdrawal in 1972. During this time, the battalion lost 190 men as a result of enemy action, accidents, and illness. |
