Ernie was a loving, husband, father, brother and uncle. he volunteered to go to Vietnam in order to save enough money to buy his new wife and newly born son the house of their dreams. He was a true American in every sense. He truly believed in Duty, Honor and Country. He left behind a young wife and a two month old son, Ernie Robles Martinez Jr.

He was the uncle that everyone wishes they had. You know, like a second father. I was just 4 years old when my Uncle Ernie died and I will never forge the day that the men in green showed up at our house to inform us of the loss, and boy what a loss. Ernie was the sole surviving son of the Martinez family and did not have to go to Vietnam. but like so many other patriotic boys of the time, Ernie went and he also paid the ultimate price for our freedom and the freedom of all people who want and have the will to be free.

He was a big influence on my life. After graduating high school in 1985 I enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17. I spent 10 years defending our freedom and did time in Granada, Panama and Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I just want to say "Thank You, Uncle Ernie, for making me who I am today! I miss and think of you everyday. I love you and only wait for the day that we are reunited again."
