I was there with Bernie, Tom, and Smity on May 4th, 1968.
We were on OP off Chu Ya Krei mountain at (YA940891) for about
5 hours when we were ambushed. They shot us all in a few seconds.
Then they came down to take what they wanted and shot us all again.
These brave comrades have and will always be in my memories.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 4th Infantry Division Operational Report for 04 May 1968 contains the following entry:
"At YA940891 a four man observation post from Company A, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry, received small arms fire from five NVA at close range, resulting in three US KIA and one US WIA. Artillery was employed. A platoon reaction force swept the contact area with negative findings."
The three men killed in the action on Chu Ya Krei Mountain, 9 kilometers southwest of Polei Kleng, were
  • SP4 Bernard R. Mazursky, Madison, WI;
  • SP4 Douglas B. Smith, Durham, NC; and
  • PFC Thomas A. McCormick, Mattapan, MA.
