A Note from The Virtual Wall

During June 1969 the 1st Bn, 5th Marines was conducting offensive operations in the area immediately west of An Hoa. On 08 June Alpha 1/5 encountered a well-dug-in enemy force. The 1/5 Command Chronology contains the following entry describing what happened next:

The engagement, which took place on the slope of Ong Thu mountain about 5 kilometers west of the An Hoa airfield, cost the lives of five Alpha 1/5 Marines:
  • LCpl David L. Bell, Kingston, TN;
  • LCpl William H. Green, Corning, AR;
  • LCpl Keo J. Keshner, New Florence, MO (Silver Star);
  • Pfc Robert N. Latimer, Stone Park, IL; and
  • Pfc David L. McKee, Gary, IN.
