I did not know Cliff but he was the first casualty from Point Pleasant in Vietnam. I was from Tom's River and later settled in Point Pleasant. The school system recently placed a plaque at Ocean Road School at a long overdue ceremony to honor him, as he attended that school prior to High School. He scored the first varsity touchdown for the new Point Pleasant Borough High School before he enlisted. I served in Vietnam in 1967-1968 and can recall those days of honor and terror vividly.

Just happened to pass by your name again.
I did not know you well in life,
just death that night by the stream.
You, Gadie, McFarland, Sgt. Smith, Sgt. Flores,
all in one terrible night.

I never guessed after 30 years
I would still be thinking of any of you
but I always do and always will.
Rest in peace, brotherman.

God bless your family for loving you.

From a comrade,
Sergeanttom
