It was fate that brought me to "The Wall"
It was desire that compelled me to follow it
It was curiosity that caused me to look down the blackness
It was his name that made me stop and ponder
It was a young man I do not know named Patrick Mc Kenney
It was the persistent thought that I needed to know more
It was the rubbing of his name that made him real to me
It was obsession that put me on a path to learn about him
It was in service to our country that he gave his life
It was for us all, even those he did not know
It was me trying to find a way to show this young man
It was "Him" not going to be forgotten, not now, not ever
It was "Wall Magic" I felt and it lit the path to my relief
It was discovery of this virtual memorial, of the people who care
It was designed for family and friends to write of their loved one
It was not only my pleasure but my duty as a citizen to do this
It was an honor to record my thoughts and how I arrived here
It was a single wish for this young man and his memory
It was done so who Patrick was will live forever, not just his name
It was only through me that it was made ready for you
It was no more than that and it needs no thanks
It was your thoughts that will show us Patrick, as a boy, as a man
It was made ready because we want and need to know him.
