A Note from The Virtual Wall

Sixty-nine American soldiers from the 196th Infantry Brigade died in heavy fighting in the Hiep Duc Valley, Quang Tin Province, during the first two weeks of 1968. Although the heaviest loss was on 10 January - 20 men - the last man to be killed in the series of engagements was Sergeant Patrick Mortus, who fell to mortar fire on the 14th.
