10 Apr 2005 All I can say is that I served proudly as a member of the Recon Team, 2d Bn, 35th Inf, 25th Inf Div, 3d Task Force, Vietnam. I knew some of the brave men who were killed in this action, and will pray for them, as well as for those of us who returned, and especially for those who have not returned, our MIAs. The 25th Infantry Division is a great unit with a great history of combat, I was very happy to have had the opportunity to have served with some of the finest soldiers. Special and close to the heart was Sgt Juan Munoz, who was from my home town, San Antonio, Texas, and was always there for us, God Bless him. God Bless All ... A Note from The Virtual Wall Nine men from the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry, were killed in action on 02 August 1966: A Co, 2nd Bn, 35th Inf Rgt CPT James M. McDonough, Portland, ME (Silver Star) 1SG Benito Perez, Corpus Christi, TX (Silver Star) C Co, 2nd Bn, 35th Inf Rgt 2LT Leonard D. Davis, Bisbee, AZ (Silver Star) PFC Terry D. Craighead, Fulton, MO Recon Plt, HHC, 2nd Bn, 35th Inf Rgt SGT Juan Munoz, San Antonio, TX SP4 William H. Gardner, Montgomery, AL SP4 George G. Trueluck, Detroit, MI PFC Michael T. Ledebur, Milwaukee, WI PFC Denzil D. Pettit, Bloomington, CA First Sergeant Perez received a posthumous Silver Star for his efforts to save Captain McDonough. In addition, the Recon Platoon's Staff Sergeant Thomas Dean was wounded in this action, contracted hepatitis as a result of blood transfusions, and died from the disease on 6 Oct 1966. He too was awarded the Silver Star for his valor during the action. These men are remembered by the 35th Infantry Association
