The following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987.

Morgan attended Bishop Neumann High School, and joined the Marine Corps on his 17th birthday. He arrived in Da Nang, Viet Nam, exactly two years later. The 19-year-old corporal was an administrative specialist in Company D of the 7th Engineer Battalion. Morgan died at the Yokosuka (Japan) Naval Base Hospital on August 24, 1970, as a result of wounds suffered in Quang Nam Province, Viet Nam. Survivors included his parents and a sister. Morgan lived a block from Bernard Moran, a Marine Corps non-commissioned officer killed in Viet Nam in December 1971.

Jay, I never met you - I am your cousin Butchie's wife. I may have met you at Sucker Creek once ... right before you left for Vietnam. Me {Donna} and Butchie have named a child after you ... and the story goes on. My first grandaughter was also named after you, her name is Karley Morgan ... she's bad in a good way! You would be so proud of her and her momma and your namesake who is my son. He is doing well in his business of landscaping. I just wish you were here to go on the boat with 'my' Jay (not a little one, a big 'un {boat}). I am talking big, Jay. I think that you and 'my' Jay could have had so much fun. Maybe somday you can meet 'my' Jay. I don't wanna be around at the time, I would be too scared about the both of you shooting deer, frogs, running your 70-somthing Nova too fast. Dear Jay Patrick Morgan, if you were here in your Gramma's pigpen (which turned into a beautigful house) you would be helping us put up the deck.
