A Note from The Virtual Wall

Lance Corporal Daniel A. Nelson was wounded in action by an "explosive device" and died of his wounds in the Station Hospital, Naval Support Activity, Danang, on 19 Feb 1968. While the 1/1 Marines took their share of casualties during the initial days of the Tet Offensive, the only other member of Charlie 1/1 lost to an explosive device during the 60 days preceeding LCpl Nelson's death was Pfc Gail Denham of Pensacola, Florida, who was killed in action on 10 Feb 1968. Although hardly conclusive, it seems possible that LCpl Nelson was wounded in the same incident.
