(Scott has posted an article on Find A Grave for Robert) I found some of his medals at a flea market and feel he needs to be remembered. My research leads me to believe all of his family is gone! I received these articles from microfilm from his home town library." Continuing the story, it has been discovered that both Robert's mother and father served in the military and all three are buried together in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Lincoln County, Nebraska. Virgil M Nowak, Robert's father, is at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. He predeceased his son by about 18 months in 1966. According to her obituary, Lorraine Vera (McCarville) West, 92, of North Platte, passed away December 18, 2011. She was born in 1919 in Loup City, Nebraska and graduated from Hazard High School in May of 1939. She was working for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Denver when she joined the United States Navy (Waves) SK3C from May 1944 to March 1946. On November 7, 1946, Lorraine was united in marriage to Virgil M. Nowak in Ogallala. He died on July 30, 1966, at the Veteran's Hospital in Grand Island. He served in World War II as a Private First Class. Survivors include a sister, Irene Wolfe of Lincoln and several nieces and nephews. She is buried in Fort Mcpherson National cemetery To their marriage, one child was born, Robert V. Nowak on Aug. 15, 1947, at Lewellyn. He was killed in Vietnam on Feb. 18, 1968, at the age of 21.
